Surfers Paradise at the Gold Coast

Friday morning we left around 8 to catch the train to the Gold Coast. The train ride was about an hour and then we rode a bus for another 20 minutes to get to the specific beach Surfers Paradise. It was a piece of cake compared to a 14 hour plane ride.

When we arrived it was in the high sixties outside, but we all still had our jackets on. Did the cooler weather stop us from getting in the water? Absolutely not! My dad and Matt were the first ones in and it wasn't just toe dipping either. I was going to chicken out and just watch them ride the waves, but after some convincing I finally joined them. Once you were in the water it wasn't so bad and actually felt better then it did outside.

We rode the waves back in to the shore over and over again, all the while images of sharks taking a bite out of one my appendages kept resurfacing at the forefront of my brain. One wave finally sent me tumbling underneath the water, flailing about on the ocean floor and guzzling salt water which scared me enough that I decided to return to the safety of the beach.

Poor Sawyer didn't know what to make of the sand. He never warmed up to it either, so the final census remained that he did NOT like the feeling of sand between his toes, or on his hands, or anywhere near his body.

Which meant the rest of the day at the ocean consisted of one of us holding him at all times.

After warming up we walked around looking at all the shops and grabbed a treat because everyone knows a day at the beach is not complete without some icecream.

Earlier in the morning we had gone for a run and my parents took us to a park that had these fun cars you could ride on that went around a track. The parks here are awesome! They are everywhere and have all sorts of toys for kids that you never see anymore, you know like ones that could potentially be dangerous so they were removed for fear of a lawsuit. Here the lawsuits are capped so people can't sue millions of dollars for ridiculous things like hot coffee from McDonald's spilling on you or your kid falling on a playground. Hmmm, what a concept!
