Our postponed Valentines Day Celebration

Yesterday Matt drove me up north to San Luis Obispo where we spent the day walking around looking in antique stores, checking out the Mission, boulder hopping in a creek we found, and taking lots of pictures. After frolicking around town and finding nothing ancient and cool to buy from the antique stores we drove another twelve or so miles to Morro Bay where there is a ginormous rock (more like a mountain) that is famous.  There was actually a ton of people there, but they all sat in their cars and looked out at the rock and the ocean because it was so frigid outside!! We braved the cold, and the seagulls and got out and took some pics. The ones on the rocks were taken seconds before we left and a huge wave came crashing down in that exact spot. We heard the screams of the other people on the rocks who got completely drenched and were glad it wasn't us! It was a really fun day especially too because with my tooth being out only the day before we got to have milkshakes for breakfast and dinner!!
That's my kind of diet!

Accidents and Extractions

It seems that ever sinceI decided to get into nursing I have subconsciously decided to prepare myself for blood and guts, by being a clutz and getting into accidents. The first one was when I was making a salad for my lunch before I left for work and the knife decided to drop off the counter.....and onto my barefoot down below. Luckily it bounced right out, by boy was it a gusher! I am not one to handle seeing my own blood very well, as you will see in the next example. Thankfully though that time nothing major happened, I just called Matt and made him come home from work and spend the day watching movies with me.  I mean after all, I couldn't go to work with a hurt foot like that. (no stitches though, just a lovely scar now to show off).

A month or so later we were having a bake-a-thon, if you will, at Matt's G-ma's house with his brother and his girlfriend baking up a storm off assorted cookies. I was in charge of the sugar cookies and decorating them. Being the genius that I am I thought I would use a nearby handy looking pie cutter to get the plastic off the spinkle containers so I could put mountains of sprinkles on my awaiting frosted cookies. Then whamo! Next thing I know the not-as-safe-as-I-thought pie cutter (there was a serrated edge on it I hadn't noticed) sliced right through the top of my right hand pointer finger and through the nail. That's when it really got good. I ran to the sink and started to wash it off and Matt knowing how I react in these situations immediately came over to help me and told me not to look. His grandma worked in a doctors office for ages too so she bandaged my poor finger up good and tight, but needless to say I still passed out and ended up getting sick in the bathroom. Wow, am I the life of the party or what?! Both times though I ended up healing nicely without stitches, so since I never had to visit the doctor for those, my body found other ways to get me there...

I ended up getting a really bad ingrown toenail that prevented me from going to the gym or even walking correctly for that matter so I had to go in and get the sides of nail removed which involved getting a shot to my big toe who wanted to go wee, wee, wee, all the way home after that. Now I have a lovely Lincoln Park After Dark painted landing strip of a toenail on that foot.

Next my one and only wisdom tooth that I have which I had been told countless times would never come in, decided now was the year to make an appearance. I actually got it taken out today, got put under and everything just to get that little sucker out. But I have plenty of vicoden to keep my happy and milkshakes a plenty so it's all good. I got bored after awhile of just sitting around watching movies and decided it was time to paint a picture since I haven't in two or more years. Here is my little watercolor painting I did today that has been named the 'light at the end of the tunnel'. Original name I know. :) I'm not sure if you can tell but the right side is where I got my tooth out so if it's puffy that's why. I suspect tomorrow will look even bigger and better.  I can hardly wait!

Changes, changes, changes

Well since I last posted on here a lot of things in our life have changed. First I decided to get back to my roots, literally.....as in dye my hair back to the boring brown that it naturally is. Why do such an awful thing you ask? Well, it has to do with the fact the blondes do have more fun and I was just getting too worn out with all the funness I was having :) not to mention, it was really high maintenance and...dun, dun, dun, (drumroll please) I have decided to go back to school!!! And changing my hair color back was the first step seeing as how I wasn't going to be working in a salon anymore and be able to get my hair done for free all the time.

After a lot of thought I decided I wanted to go back to school to become a nurse and thankfully Matt was fully supportive as were my parents and in-laws!  I went to BYU-Idaho for approximately a semester and a half right out of high school and not knowing then what I wanted to be when I grew up I opted to go to cosmetology school. It was a good experience, I learned a lot, and for sure having those skills will save us lots of moola since I can cut Matt's hair, and all our little pipsqueaks too when we decide to have them.  But I really didn't want to look back on my life and regret that all I did for a living was put highlights in people's hair, I wanted to make a difference in people's lives! So I am now working as a caregiver while I go to school and I absolutely 100% love it! (helps too that my hours are 11-5 and I get to sleep in. wahoo!) I take care of an elderly gentlemen and his little dog and we go to park, the movies, out to eat, and with his help I have learned how to play Gin. (out of 100 games so far together, I think I have won 2).  Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday night plus Saturday mornings I go to school getting all my pre-reqs done so I can hopefully get on the waitlist to get into the nursing program by next January.  So are weekends are shot for the next semester of two, but in the end it will be so worth it! I don't think Matt minds so much, cuz it's the one opportunity he gets to play his golf video game while I'm away. ;)
