Sawyer date

Every so often I try to take Sawyer out on just a mom/son date. Once we went to Camels Back park in Boise and then hit up Goody's for icecream so Sawyer requested that same exact date again. I had a sneaking suspicion he requested said date because the time before he got a stuffed animal out of it from Goody's...an anteater/aardvark (we aren't  exactly sure) that he named Bunky. Bunky has become a member of the family, goes on car rides with us, sleeps with Sawyer every night, has made an appearance at school, even had a sleepover once in a store when he was accidentally left there and had to be rescued the next morning. This time after we climbed the hills at the park we went to Goody's for an Oreo/hot fudge milkshake and found a new friend: a Narwhal. Yep, one of those whale looking things with a unicorn horn that you probably saw on Elf, the one that says "bye buddy!" right before he heads off to find his dad. I thought they were mythical creatures, nope turns out they are real! Sawyer named his new friend Stuffy and then picked out an a porcupine looking one for Scout that she named Arlo.

Enjoying the worlds best milkshake and showing off his new Narwahl that he named Stuffy.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day we went on a bike ride to Sandy Point park. It was six miles there and Sawyer rocked it on his own bike the whole way! Once we arrived we realized his little legs on his one-speed may not make it back in the headwind and on a path that was going to be slightly uphill the whole ride back. So Matt went back to retrieve the car while Scout, Sawyer and I played in the grass with all the geese and ventured down to the water, but it was too cold to get all the way in.

In the wind it was pretty chilly so the kids would wrap themselves up in the picnic blanket to warm up.

Then just as we were beginning to get bored and wonder how much longer it was going to take Matt to come back and get us, we remembered we have a bunch of fun photo features on the iPhone! We started taking slo-mo videos of Sawyer jumping off the picnic table and doing all sorts of tricks. Then Scout joined in too. They were hilarious to watch!

That evening we went to Rosie and Steve's for a barbecue and roasted S'mores in their backyard. It was a great end to a fun, relaxing day.

Utah weekend

In March we drove to Utah celebrate Scout's 2nd birthday, visit friends, go to a few children's museums, and have a weekend away from the daily grind. One of our friends had two sick kiddos with pink eye and double ear infections so we weren't able to see them, and then I had to cancel seeing my best friend, who were going to see on Sunday before we left, because I got food poisoning! Saturday night about an hour after Matt and I had takeout Thai food I got super sick! And was sick all that night and the whole ride home on Sunday. That wasn't the best way to end our vacay, but everything leading up to that was fun.

We visited a children's museum in SLC and then the Dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point. On a whim we decided to check out the Museum of Natural Curiousity, which is also at Thanksgiving Point. It was amazing! Matt and I enjoyed it just as much (maybe even more) than the kids!

Driving to the Dinosaur Museum.

Scout sleeping on the way to Utah.

Scout loves dinosaurs even more after visiting there. I'm sure her big brother, who wants to be a paleontologist when he grows up, has influenced her dinosaur infatuation!

Digging for bones.

Playing with the Dino toys in the sand.

Checking out Sawyer's excavating tools.

Climbing the three story jungle gym of rope bridges and ladders that was in the Museum of Natural Curiousity. It was tricky to do with a two year old who you weren't allowed to hold while on the ropes. She had to climb everything by herself, but she did great! Sawyer on the other hand, realized just how high up we were and decided at that very moment that he is afraid of heights. He froze and wouldn't budge from a spot on one of the wobbly rope bridges. He refused to turn around and he was too scared to move forward. Finally once he saw a little four year old girl zoom past him on the bridge he decided he could do it too :)

This is a forced smiled right before he decided he wasn't having fun.

A tornado wind tunnel.

I thought it was great. Scout not so much.

I want one of these water tables!

Sawyers floating head.

Scout's screaming head.

A pretend bank.

Right when we were about to leave we noticed  they had a whole outdoor area to explore with tunnels, caves and gardens to play in.

We hit up IKEA next because when in Utah you go to IKEA. I stayed in the car with Scout since she had passed out after the museum.

That night we went swimming at the hotel. The funny thing was that Matt booked a hotel in SLC for us and when we arrived I realized it was the same hotel I used to work at when I was 20 right before I met him! It was pretty ironic! I worked at a restaurant at the bottom of the hotel, as well as the Olive Garden right across from it. It was strange to be staying there almost twelve years later, married and with two kids, but also a million times happier now than I was back then. I was so depressed and in such a dark place at that time in my life. If I could have told myself back then how happy I would be in the future I don't think my former self would have believed it. But honestly, with a cute two year old running around in a bathing suit that barely could contain her cheeks, how could I not be happy?! 😜
