October Fun

I love October. It has always been my favorite month with its cool, crisp air and changing leaves and then in 2009 on the first day of October Sawyer was born which makes the month that much sweeter. When we lived in California I would crave the kind of autumnal October that happens in Idaho and Utah. I was always busting at the seams to break out my sweaters and boots once September hit, but in California it felt kind of silly and overdressed to be wearing anything more than shorts, a tank and flip flops when it was in the 80's outside :)  Don't me wrong, I still love California weather and come February I will be wishing I was there, but there's something about the fall months that just makes me feel like cold weather is mandatory! And evening fall walks in said cold weather is also mandatory....

Another fun thing about October, that is four years now running, is our Halloween pumpkin carving night with our friends the Searcy's and Smith's! It was our turn to host again this year, which was fun to do at our new house especially now that we live less than a mile away from both  friends houses!

It wouldn't be a traditional pumpkin carving party without our annual goofy photo! These are the best! They just get better and better every year!

Sawyer's 6th Birthday

On October 1, Sawyer turned six years old! Blows my mind that he is that old already. The thought that in ten more years, he will be *gulp* SIXTEEN seems unimaginable, but when he was first born I couldn't even imagine him ever being six and now that day has come and gone! This year he wanted to celebrate his birthday again by doing another Lego party so that is exactly what we did! Secretly, I hope he wants to do the same thing again next year because it's so easy peasy, a ton of fun and all the kids love it.

We took Sawyer out on a lunch date with just mom and dad to celebrate without Ms. Grabbyhands (aka Scout) taking attention away from him. He has a thing for popcorn lately so we went to Wingers where they bring you out a bowl of popcorn after you are seated. This kid loves any one-on-one dates or time that he can get with mom or dad, so getting both of us all to himself was a special moment for him.

He was very specific about the kind of cake he wanted so we scrolled through Pinterest one day and this was the one he voted on: A lego dump truck and construction workers unloading dirt (Nestle crunch candy worked perfectly).

And the candy also nicely discussed the ginormous crack that happened moments after I frosted the cake.

Matt and Sawyer pondering which Lego set to settle on.

Flashback to Grandma and Scout at Sawyer's 5th birthday party, just for comparisons sake.

And both of them this year at his 6th birthday party.
