The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Pregnancy Thus Far

1. Sensitive Sniffer
This would have been my first clue that there was a bun in the oven if I hadn't already been informed of such. I couldn't open our freezer for weeks because of the frozen ground turkey in there whose overwhelming stench attacked my nostrils as soon as the door opened. Mind you the turkey was in sealed containers which were stuffed in ziplock bags. Even the ice made me gag because it smelled like turkey meat. Then at work my coworker would drink this Vitamin C packet that's Acai berry. I could smell those packets a mile away even unopened. The first time she poured that into a cup to drink, I ran for the bathroom because the smell upset my nose and stomach that much. Now she kindly drinks them in the back of the office.

2. I'm like the Hungry Hungry Caterpillar
You know that book that your kindergarten teacher used to read to you about the caterpillar that scarfs down all the leafs and fruit. "On Monday he ate through an apple. On Tuesday he ate through two pears. On Wednesday he ate through three plums, but he was still hungry." Just change caterpillar to Kristen and make that every two hours instead of days and that sums up my feeding frenzy lately. As soon as I eat anything, my stomach devours it like a pack of wild dogs are in there and then yells 'feed me!' an hour or so later. Unfortunately what makes eating so hard is that I haven't craved a single thing, mostly I've just had food aversions. It's been somewhat of a difficulty too trying to stay within a gluten free diet when the only thing that sounds edible is pizza! boo who.

3. Belly Pats
I've noticed since I've informed my work that I'm expecting (which when I did they all said "Yeah, we know". And all that time I thought I was being icognito with my insane morning sickness. Apparently not.) Not long after, the belly patting started. I think I've had three or four so far. Sorry people that's not a baby bump you're feeling, that's just my regular body, but thanks for checking.

4. The Wiggling Gummi Bear
Our first few ultrasounds were neat, but not as incredible as the last one. Before what looked like just a blob, this time actually looked like a living being! It was wiggling it's little nubbin arms and legs all around and I couldn't stop giggling while watching it. Since it finally looked like something other then a blob Matt took the ultrasound into his work and showed off what he says looks like a little gummi bear to all his co workers. I wished I could have been there that day peeking around the corner to see the expression on his face as he was telling them!

5. Is it Nap Time Yet? You know that feeling as a kid when you had just come home from a week at girls camp where you stayed up until dawn every night and you are past the point of exhaustion? That is exactly how I have felt the past month or two. I've taken naps at work on my lunch break just to catch a few zzzz's, and then come home and went to bed at 6:30 and slept in until 7:00 the next morning. That might sound like over 12 hours of sleep, but if you minus all the trips to the bathroom that makes it around only 10 hours I'm sure. I'm slowly starting to feel like I have enough energy that I could quite possibly stay up until perhaps 7:30 or 8? I know, what a party animal. Thankfully Matt hasn't complained about my retiring to bed early because it becomes the perfect opportunity for him to play his video games that have been shelved since we were first married.

6. Being Waited On.
One of the perks of being pregnant I've discovered is being taken care of! I'm one lucky girl to have a husband that treats me so well. He would make runs to Jamba Juice for me when I was sick with horrible morning sickness and I said that was the only thing on the planet that would make me feel better. He doesn't make a peep either when I'm taking up 3/4 of the bed with my Snoogle pillow that is supposed to help me sleep on my left side. He asks me everyday when I get home how I'm feeling, and in the morning when he gets up at the crack of dawn he always comes in to kiss me goodbye while I'm still all snuggly in bed, even though I used to get up early with him and make his lunches. I've already jokingly said "because I'm pregnant" to get my way about certain things, like when I'm laying down taking up the whole couch and refuse to share a seat, but I should probably not wear that phrase out too soon!

Ah yes, I remember how much smells bothered me. The thought of leftover chicken also repulsed me.

Wow-I can so relate!! Especially to the jamba juice and pizza cravings. I ate those and cereal mostly my whole pregnancy! I am things are going well (as well as they can go with pregnancy) but keep getting your sleep and eating your vitamins and hang in there!

don't you hate the belly patting? it made me crazy!!! when I was pregnant with zeb- kent's grandma asked me if I was having twins because I looked really big- and this was when I was something like 15 weeks prego. I wasn't even showing! I even said to her- actually no - not twins JUST my FAT. people are so weird to pregnant ladies. Just wait- it gets way worse :) when do you find out the gender? I say you don't find out :) it is so much fun to be surprised!

Oh I loved reading this post. I can totally relate. I have the most sensitive sniffer when I'm pregnant. I thought your little gummy picture was a craving. I went through two weeks when I just had to have sour patch kids...that stage has long since past. The getting up to use the bathroom must steal a lot of the quality sleep time because pregnancy is just a long marathon of being tired. Of course the end result is so worth it. :) Good luck and eat pizza!
