Just Kid'n Around

We've been all sorts of silly and feeling good for the past two days.
Even Moxie has been a participant in the fun.
Sawyer thought it was especially funny to see the dog sporting a diaper just like him. I found it even more amusing then he did, which is why I didn't take it off of her for a good 15 minutes. Had to get my moneys worth since that diaper was going in the trash afterwards.

Then today after my morning Chemistry class we decided, on a whim, to go check out the new indoor playground in Meridian called Just Kid'n Around. I couldn't remember the name when I was telling Matt about it, but knew it had something to do with goats. Luckily we found it. We got there around 1:00 and stayed for around an hour and a half.

Sawyer fixed us a tasty lunch of sliced apples and cucumbers while we were there. Thankfully he had turned the burners off. I tried to tell him cutting fruit on the stove just isn't practical. Actually if plastic food isn't what you're in the mood for, they do have a cafe there so you can enjoy a meal or just some coffee while you watch your kid run around like a maniac. It's a win/win for both parent and child.

And the best part about that place? You can leave and come back later in the day, which is exactly what we did. We went home for a few hours and around 5:30 when Sawyer got his second wind of energy we headed on back.
This time around he served us some delicious tea.

Want some?
It's Oolong tea just like in Coraline, but if you'd prefer Jasmine he has that as well.

After tea he decided to help them clean up the place since they closed at 7. We think he may be headed for a career in the custodial arts.

And to Matt's dismay  delight he did a little babysitting. Sawyer was just doing what any good dad would do, those poor baby dolls hadn't been on a walk all day!

Me doing the "smile at daddy" finger poking pose that as of late has been very unsuccessful. Stubborn little stinkbug is getting stingy with those smiles. We got the lip pucker pout instead.

You can kind of get an idea of what the place looks like from the photo below. You can see Matt in the background sitting on the uber comfy couches they have for the parents to kick back on. There Sawyer is in the 'baby' area where there is a little toddler slide he slid down about twenty times in a row. At that moment he had just discovered there was another little boy in that area, wearing the same exact outfit and looking very familiar. He could have sworn he'd seen him before somewhere!

And finally right before we left Dad helped him do some rock climbing to ensure he was good and tired before bedtime. It worked. We put S. to bed about two hours ago and haven't heard a peep since.
Now that right there makes it's totally worth the $5.75 admission!
(just for kids, parents are free)

Just Some Favorites

When the nose runs, when the cough starts, when we're feeling sad -cuz we're all still sick- we simply remember our favorite things and then we don't feel so bad.

Some of Sawyer's favorite things lately:

Playing with his cars.

And making vroom vrooming noises as he 'drives' them around on the floor, the dresser, or up mom or dad's legs.

Being on the lookout for planes.
His eyes and ears are tuned in 24/7 to the slightest sound of an airplane engine or the teeniest sign of a plane on the horizon. Don't worry if you don't hear or see anything yet, his index finger is sure to point out the oncoming plane.

And as his recently prescribed antibiotics get rid of his sinus infection and his appetite returns, he is remembering that one of his all time favorite things is to eat!  I'm sick too,  but definitely haven't forgotten I love food! Last night I made some homemade macaroni and cheese and while I would only rate it a 4, I think S. would give it a solid 10. Don't believe me? Ask the dishes! Er, I mean watch the video.

Um, yea, sorry about the fork prong marks on your table, Mom.

Bits and Pieces

First off, thanks Nana for mailing us some delicious chocolate chip cookies! The package came today and S. devoured two of them in a matter of seconds (we won't mention how many Matt and I have already consumed.)

He's been all smiles the past two days. Last night we went out for hamburgers after the chicken curry I'd made for dinner turned out to be a little  a LOT too spicy.  While we were out Sawyer noticed.... the MOON! He wanted to stare and point at it and do nothing else.  After we assured him it would be there all night, and tomorrow night and the next, we were finally able to buckle him back in the car to go home.

Sawyer's infatuation with magnets is still going strong so we decided to take matters into our own hands and construct him his own magnet board for his room. The alternative is that he's always under foot in the kitchen attaching magnets to the fridge or wants to be in the office while Matt's working so he can take them on and off the filing cabinet, over and over and over again.

First we bought two metal sheets at the Craft Warehouse. Then last night Matt glued some cardboard on the back to keep the two sheets together and make them less flimsy and I glued some fuzzy cloth around the edges since the corners were kind of sharp. Today I glued a ribbon to the back and pinned in to the wall so it's just at his height. Tada! He seems to like it so far.

The other project we've done lately is made these faces that we found in the Keeping Your Toddler Busy book. I glued felt to two oval pieces I'd cut out of cardboard (my oatmeal box to be exact, which is why all the oatmeal packets that were previously in it are now in a heap in the cupboard) to make the faces. Then I just cut out a few lips, eyes, noses, eyebrows, and hair out of different colored pieces of felt. Then he can arrange them in whatever way he wants on the heads and the felt pieces relatively stay put on the felt face. Right now he likes to make quite the interesting individual by putting all the eyes and all the mouths on one head. I just keep all of it together in a Ziploc bag and keep in the diaper bag. I figure it should come in handy when we are waiting for an appointment at the doctor or the dentist.

Yesterday we ventured outside again. Sawyer ran around in the backyard playing with the dogs while I picked up the dogs poop.  I'd say he had the better job. Although I did come across my missing orange ear plug. Apparently they are non digestible :)

My parents dog Libby, who we are so lovingly taking care of while we stay at their house (that was for you mom, don't worry, we are making sure she's staying alive until you return) has some very interesting talents. She's especially good at scooting her bum on the floor, the carpet, and down the grassy hill in the backyard. Sawyer was intently watching her perform this talent while we were outside. Next thing I know he's sliding down the hill on his bum too. Monkey Doggie see, Monkey Baby do.

Baths Aren't Just For Babies

Lately we've been indulging in Costco's chocolate chocolate-chip muffins which tends to result in needing a bath afterwards. Lucky for S. we'd just bought some bath paint to make bath time so much fun. Rubber ducky alone just wasn't cutting it anymore.

We also just bought some bath markers today. Sawyer is in bed right now so instead I guess Matt and I will just have to try them out, together. You know, just to be sure they work ;)

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

Slowly, but surely little S. is getting over his cold. His teething, not so much. Those mean molars are still causing him a lot of pain and subsequently lots of shirt changes throughout the day from drool soakage. He has come up with this clever way of sucking on his pacifier as you can see below. What it results in is a massive amount of slobber (check out his chin) and a protruding lower lip that makes him look very strange. We still love him though in all of his weirdness.

Since his runny nose was finally at a minimum and we were both getting cabin fever we went into the backyard to do some exploring.

It may not look like it here, but he was having some fun. I saw a smile peek through behind the crooked pacifier and heard a laugh or two. He must be starting to feel better.
I think our Soyboy is back!
