All About Scout

In less than two months Scout will be two! She is a riot! And I know every parent thinks their kid is uber smart, but either we forgot what Sawyer could do when he was two OR its true what they say that girls mature quicker than boys OR she really is just one smart cookie. She can say almost 100 words, knows all of her body parts, knows some shapes, some letters and colors.

Likes to zip up her own jammies.
Can blow her nose, which is impressive to both Matt and I considering Sawyer STILL has trouble figuring out how to blow his nose.
Puts on her own clothes, or at least tries to.
Love to put the soap in the dishwasher soap dispenser and start the dishwasher.
She likes to yell "MAMA! MAMA!" if I'm not looking at her in order to get my attention and it makes me laugh everytime because it sounds just like Will Farrell in the clip below:

Earlier this year she had a horrible sounding cough that I was thinking sounded an awful lot like a "seal barking"(whatever that really sounds like!), but that is the telltale sign of croup. Also, I counted her respirations and they were almost double what they should be! I had to work that night and was nervous about leaving her since on my unit at work they have had a lot of kids admitted with croup and RSV. Thankfully one of my friends that lives nearby had a nebulizer that she let me borrow last minute. Matt and I have her a breathing treatment and off I went to work feeling a little bit better that she might do okay during the night. The next day she still sounded barky so we took her to Urgent Care and she got some steroids for croup. A few days later she was much better.

This is one of the days she was sick and the only way I could get her to sleep was upright on my chest. Poor baby.

It has started to get warm off and on here so we ventured out a couple times to Camels Back park in Boise to play on the toys and hike. This was on a sunny Saturday and we met my parents there for a hike and then lunch afterwards in Hyde Park.

Soap beards.

Last week I had five days off in a row so we decided to take Scout out of daycare and potty train her. I used the same three day method that I used with Sawyer, which worked like a charm with him, only at the time he was two and a half. According to the author of this method though 22 months is old enough to potty train as long as they are showing signs that they are ready. Scout will be 24 months in a few short weeks and she has been showing signs that she is ready for the past six months so I thought the process would be easy peasy. Oh no, not a chance with this girl! She grasped the concept, kept herself dry and had excellent bladder control, but would SCREAM every time I sat her on the toilet. By day three, it seemed like the screaming was getting worse and the whole experience was becoming traumatic....for both of us! I decided to scrap the whole thing, guiltily put her back in diapers and said I would give it another six months before we attempted potty training again! Then this past weekend Scout said she wanted to wear her 'Undaways' and has been wearing them since then, keeping them dry, going potty in her little Minnie Mouse toilet and then dumping it in the big toilet. She potty trained herself! Looks like she just needed it to be HER idea :)

Checking out some glasses at Costco with daddy.

Putting all her "Amalls" to bed.

Happily having lunch.

Sharing her smoothie with "Bubuh"

We moved her into a big bed recently too and sold her crib. I was worried she would try roaming the halls at night or get into things, but she has stayed in her bed all night and during nap time and will wait until we come in to get her. I'm curious to see how long that good behavior lasts, but it sure is nice to hear her playing with her stuffed animals on the baby monitor in the morning and be able to savor a teensy bit more sleep while she plays.

She makes a little 'nest' with her blankets and stuffed animals each time she is in her bed and falls asleep that way. My kids love their blankets just like their mama!

Scout has had an extreme obsession of late with all things Apple. She can differentiate between iPhone, iPad and iPod and will ask specifically for the one she wants. She knows how to operate each one of them and always goes to the YouTube Kids Channel to watch videos of people opening up Disney toys. If we let her, she would watch for hours! We were letting her use the devices, especially while we were running errands because it made for a much quieter and nicer trip, but then we saw how much data she was using! We actually were close to going over our data plan, which has NEVER happened so we had to squash her iPhone habit. Now she just plays games on her iPod, which she inherited from Sawyer and that keeps them both entertained in the car.

This was taken at my nephew Alex's 4th birthday party and it just makes me laugh every time I look at it, which is often because I set it as the screen photo on my phone! Her little antennas and her big eyes crack me up!

Decorating the kitchen with stickers.

Loves to take her socks off and put them on her hands like mittens and then puts her shoes on top of those.

I probably already posted this photo, but is seriously one of my favs and was on our Christmas cards this year....that we never sent out. Oops.

Scoutty and I around the same age.

Wearing her pink puppy costume.

Making silly faces.

Speaking of faces, this girl makes some good ones. She has mastered the pouty lip.

The intense high pitched squealing mad face.

And the stink eye.

"Reading" books is her favorite past time lately.

These photos were after she took a spill at her daycare playing with a wagon. She bit her bottom lip pretty good so it got super swollen and her face had road rash all the way up. She was also evaluated for ear tubes this same week and then had surgery the very next morning after her appointment when the tubes were highly recomended. I had to work the night, but the surgery center is at the hospital I work at, like literally right next door. That morning after work Matt met me at the surgery center with Scout and my mom went to our house to get Sawyer up and ready for school.

Her she is pre-surgery happy as a clam and completely unaware of what was about to take place.

We waited in that room for what felt like an eternity, but only because she was so busy. She wanted to touch everything in the room, wash her hands in the sink, play with the thermometer, you name it!

She was pretty proud of her bracelet.

The surgery was so quick and before I knew she was back in the my arms and we were waiting for her to come to. She was like a limp little rag doll and then started to wake up, but man was she MAD! She was screaming and was so out of it, it made me so sad! We were trying to get her to drink juice and she wanted nothing more than to throw everything across the room. Then on the way home she finally fell back asleep. I thought I would be abel to sleep too when I got home because I had been up for 24 hours at that point, but I was told before we left to keep an eye on her while she slept in case her breathing got to shallow or she threw up in her sleep from the anesthesia. It was a loooooong day, but we made it through and she started acting more like her self that night and slept fine that night. I was so happy to finally get to bed that night too!

The following week she was the happiest kid on the block! The ear tubes were the best thing we could have done. She hasn't had any more ear infections, no more constantly runny nose and she overall just seems like she feels a lot better.

Here are her photos from picture day at her daycare. I had forgotten that morning that it was picture day and was running out of clean clothes so she was dressed all kinds of crazy. When I dropped her off and found out it was picture day I figured it was no big deal because we weren't planning on buying any photos anyways. Then the photos came back and were so stinkin cute I couldn't say no! I will pretend she dressed herself that morning, hence the leopard shoes, the pink jean jacket and the purple tu-tu, yep that was ALL her  doing :)

The kids coloring. This is one activity they both like to do together and for the most part don't fight during this time.

We love this little monkey and can't wait to celebrate her two year birthday on the 11th.  To celebrate we are headed to Utah to stay with our friends the Butlers one night, go to the Kids Discovery Museum in SLC on Saturday and then the Dinosaur museum that evening and hopefully see my best friend Melissa too before we head home.

I think I told you before that she and my Gabe look similar-I was looking through these photos and Gabe thought they were pictures of him! What's really funny, though, is that they sound like the same kid. They must be kindred spirits, you practically described my G. Fun for us!
