Scout is ONE!

A lot has been going on lately so we decided to postpone a one year old birthday party for Miss Scout for a later date and kept things simple by celebrating with just the four of us up at a nearby hot springs. Sundays are family day at  "The Springs" in Idaho City and it just so happens kids under one are free so we decided to take advantage of that perk and went the Sunday before her actual birthday. First we started out the day by grabbing coffee and donuts at our local Kuna grocery store with a Starbs in it and ate them upstairs in their Kaveman Lounge (yes it's really called that).

fan of her very first donut! 

I forgot to take any photos while we were soaking at The Springs, so I borrowed the one below from online. It was a super lush place! You open a tab when you get there and pay at the end so you can buy lunch or drinks while you are in the pool, which they then deliver to you in a heated yurt. They provided towels, shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen....which we definitely needed because the sun was out and it was glorious! They even provided a swim diaper for Scout so basically all we had to bring was our swimsuits. 

Two weeks prior to her birthday Scout had a bad ear infection in her left ear and was put on antibiotics. The following week she was crying nonstop one day, which is totally out of character for her, so we took her back in to urgent care to see if her ear infection was back.  Thankfully it wasn't so her crabby behavior was chalked up to the dreaded one year molars coming through. She had been clingy, crabby, and fussy way more than usual the days leading up to her bday, and even cried the whole way up to Idaho City, but the moment she was in the hot pool she was calm and smiling the entire time! The girl just needed a huge, warm bath to float around in and relax her teething worries away! 

 After swimming we ate a yummy lunch in the Yurt and headed back home. Scout fell asleep within seconds of getting into the car. 

When we got home Sawyer was really excited to give her the present from all of us. 

Scout, on the other hand, was less than thrilled, but you know how it goes...it's her party, she can cry if she wants to. 

 After Sawyer helped her open her girl Lego ice-cream truck, she calmed down a little bit or at least long enough for us to snap some pics.

The day before we had picked up some cupcakes from a cupcake bakery in Eagle, one of which was a 'baby' chocolate cupcake. Scout nibbled bits of it, but ultimately I think she preferred the donut from that morning! 

The following Wednesday, March 11th, was Scout's actual birthday. It was fun reminiscing about her birth. The two false labor trips to the hospital, followed by the 1.5 hour fast labor when it was finally the real deal! Her big size of 9 pounds right on the dot, her full head of dark hair, her swollen appearance from the quick exit that left Matt and I both bewildered...she didn't look like either of us! 

But regardless, it was still love at first sight! 

 She may have been one big purple baby bundle but she was OUR big purple baby bundle and we were over the moon that night, er morning, once she entered the world at 4:09 am! I still like to think about her birth and how it all played out. Having her naturally was, and probably always will be, the most painful thing I have ever endured, but it was also an unforgettable, incredibly intimate experience with Matt and one that I wish I could re-live! Only without the actual bringing more children into the world part :).  

Scout Evangeline has brought more joy into our lives, along with more high-pitched squeals, more laughter, and more PINK! 

Sawyer would agree, we have loved this past year of growing from a family of three to a family of four. 

Ms. Tracey, who watches Sawyer and Scout during the day, was so thoughtful sending me photos of Scout throughout the day on her actual birthday while I was at work. I had dropped off pink cupcakes for her to share with the daycare kiddos and they all sang happy birthday to her and gave her the puppy in the bottom left corner photo. 

That night I left work a little early and we went to Red Robin for dinner. The balloons they had there for the kids were a big hit for Sawyer and Scout, as in they were hitting each other over the head with the balloons and laughing hysterically. 

The servers came over to sing Happy Birthday to her, which made the night even more fun. She wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but the aubible "awwwww" of everyone in the background when they announced it was her 1st birthday is pretty funny!
